Becki BERKOWITZ, RN 

NURSE COORDINATOR / PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Becki has over 40 years nursing experience, at least 20 of which are specialized in servicing the bleeding & clotting disorder communities of Nevada.  She is the founding Nurse Coordinator of Nevada’s federally recognized hemophilia treatment center. Her accomplishments include organizing and conducting over 800 comprehensive clinics since 1997, spanning over 3 family generations of patients. She is an advocate in providing quality outreach care to rural cities of Elko, Reno, Winnemucca and Duck Valley Indian Reservation in Owyhee Indian Reservation. Becki has served in nearly every hemophilia camp since 1997 and is credited with several pivotal milestones in hemophilia treatment, such as helping to start the national CDC blood safety & bleeding disorder study between 1997-2011 and the CDC's Community Counts public health monitoring program since 2012. Becki is also a key figure in helping to expand the nationally renowned Parents Educating Parents (PEP) program catering to Spanish-speakers.

Daisy CORTES, MD 

MEDICAL DIRECTOR

Daisy is a board certified pediatric hematologist/oncologist and a board certified general pediatrician. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Irvine, where she doubled majored in Biological Sciences and Sociology.  Daisy then attended medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She returned to southern California to complete her residency in General Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). She pursued her fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at UC Irvine/CHOC Children’s under the supervision of Dr. Diane Nugent and Dr. Amit Soni, where she rotated through the Center of Inherited Blood Disorders (CIBD) clinic. After working per diem as an oncology physician for CHOC oncology, Daisy moved to Las Vegas to work at the Children’s Specialty Center of Nevada, where she was a general pediatric oncologist and hematologist, who rotated through the HTC.  She returned to Los Angeles to work at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) as a Bone Marrow Transplant hospitalist. In her free time she enjoys hiking and traveling. She also enjoys kickboxing, dancing, and reading fiction, especially suspenseful crime dramas. She is fluent in Spanish, and some conversational Italian.

Nik NIK ABDUL-RASHID, MD

MEDICAL DIRECTOR

Nik is a board certified pediatric hematologist/oncologist has been part of this community since 2005.  She has more than 25 years of experience in hematology, treating patients with bleeding and thrombotic disorders, and hemaglobinopathies.  She is the Hemoglobinopathy Consultant for Nevada's Newborn Screening Program, the Primary Investigator for the Pacific Sickle Cell Regional Collaborative sub-award grant for Nevada, & a member of Nevada's Rare Disease Advisory Council.   She is an adjunct assistant professor at Touro University Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine.  She earned her medical degree from the University of Nottingham Medical School in the United Kingdom prior to serving residency requirements at the Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center/Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York City.  She completed fellowship in pediatric hematology-oncology at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore/Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in Bronx, New York.  In her spare time, she loves to travel, hike and participate in half marathons.

Jerry Fox brings over 30 years of background as a financial professional, including several executive management positions within the gaming industry.  Mr. Fox most recently served as Chief Financial Officer & Treasurer for Tropicana Las Vegas.  Previous experience includes Chief Financial Officer of Cypress Bayou Casino in Louisiana, and Vice President of Finance for Bally’s & Paris in Las Vegas.

Mr. Fox possesses a Bachelors Degree in Finance from Santa Clara University, and two graduate degrees, Master of Business Administration and Master of Hotel Administration, from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Mr. Fox has served on the Board of Directors of HTCNV since its inception in 2017.
